St. Benedict of Norcia

Born around 480AD, St. Benedict became the lifeblood for the creation of a new Christian Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire in the West. Today, his life, example, and simple Rule continue to invigorate generations.

The Rule: Changing the world since 516

In 516, St. Benedict wrote his Rule—a guide for monks and nuns on basic monastic virtues like humility, silence, and obedience as well as directives for daily living. From the days of Benedict to today, the Rule has served as a accessible guide for both Monastics, Oblates, and lay faithful throughout the world.

“And let them first pray together, that they may associate in peace.”
