Morning Prayer, Mass, and Reflection by Brad Whittle on Sacred Music
Join us on Saturday, November 16 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption for our monthly Oblate meeting. Morning Prayer begins at 9:30am followed by a Requiem Mass for the repose of the Soul of +Douglas R. Nowicki, O.SB., 11th Archabbot of Saint Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, PA.
Brad Whittle, Organist and Choirmaster of Saint Augustine Church, Covington, will offer a reflection titled “Chant in the Benedictine Tradition and Music’s Impact on the Soul.” He will draw on the Church’s wellspring of Sacred Music and his own experience as an accomplished musician to explore the importance of music and chant.
Morning Prayer, Mass, and Reflection by Stephen Enzweiler on the Priest’s Eucharistic League
Join us on Saturday, October 19 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption for our monthly Oblate meeting. Morning Prayer begins at 9:30am followed by Mass. Cathedral Historian and Oblate Novice Sir Stephen Enzweiler will offer a reflection titled “Bishop Camillus Maes and the Benedictine Origins of the Priest’s Eucharistic League of America.” He will explore the early foundations of the Priest’s Eucharistic League in the United States and the integral role Bishop Maes and Fr. Maler shared in its development.
Morning Prayer, Mass, and Reflection by Jose Madrigal on Being Benedictine
Join us on Saturday, September 21 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption for our monthly Oblate meeting. Morning Prayer begins at 9:30am followed by Mass. Oblate Novice Jose Madrigal will offer a reflection titled “What it Means to be an Oblate” and discuss how becoming an Oblate has impacted and deepened his spiritual life.
Morning Prayer and Mass with Visit to TMU’s Monte Cassino Chapel
Join us on Saturday, August 17 at Thomas More University’s Mary, Mother of Wisdom Chapel for our monthly Oblate meeting. Morning Prayer begins at 9:30am followed by Mass. We will then walk across campus to the small Monte Cassino Chapel which was relocated to the campus in 1965 from the Monte Cassino Vineyard Property, Covington, operated by the monks in the 19th century.

Monte Cassino Vineyard Visit
Join us as we travel to the former Monte Cassino Vineyard where the Benedictine’s used to have a priory and operate a vineyard for the production of Altar Wine for Mass. We will pray Morning Prayer and hear from Mark Schmidt, the current owner of Monte Cassino Vineyards. We will also get a sneak peak at his new museum which celebrates the Benedictine heritage in Covington!
We will gather in the North parking lot beneath the Cathedral’s great window at 9:45am on April 20 to car pool to the vineyard. If you wish to meet the group at the Vineyard, please put the following address in your GPS: Monte Cassino Vineyards, 478 Kuhrs Lane, Covington, KY, 41015. The gravel entrance road to the Vineyard is to the right of Jackson Florist.

A brief reflection by Bishop Foys will follow. He will meditate on the Rule, ancient Church customs/traditions, and the month of November which recalls the poor souls and our mortality.

St. Cosmas Deanery: An Exhibit
In celebration of the establishment of St. Cosmas Oblate Deanery, St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica will host a small exhibit focused on Benedictine heritage in Covington.
Displayed in the Bishop Maes Crypt Chapel inside the Cathedral Basilica, the exhibit will feature artifacts related to Covington’s early Benedictines.
